COMING EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS:

Water Testing Program – Monday – Friday, May 7-11 - Weeklong opportunity to get your well water tested at group rates.  Test kits can be purchased at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office from May 7 to May 11 between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. The sample must be collected and returned on May 15 between 8:30 and Noon. There will be a follow up help session on Thursday, June 7, at 7:00 p.m. For more information contact the Extension office at 181 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg.  Phone 263-9226.
 
Reintroduction of the American Chestnut – Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 pm - Dave Armstrong with the American Chestnut Foundation will present a program about the reintroduction of the American Chestnut that should be disease resistant.  He will talk about the different stages of reintroduction and the success of each stage.  The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm at the Adams County Agriculture and Natural Resources Center located at 670 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325-3404.
 
Grow the Best Tomatoes.  Thursday, May 10th, 6:30-8:30.  Last of the Vegetable Growing Series. Master Gardener Ray Eckhart will share his knowledge of growing tomatoes in the home garden.  $10.00.  Call 263-9226 to register.
 
Master Gardener Greenhouse Sale.  Friday, May 11th, 12:00 – 5:00 – Over 50 varieties of Tomatoes, including heirloom, hybrid, slicer, cherry/grape, plum and paste varieties, as well as sweet bell peppers, hot and ornamental peppers, eggplants and cucurbits.  Some annual flowers, too, like lime green zinnias, and plenty of herbs – dill, cilantro, basil and parsley.
  
Master Gardener Plant Sale.  Saturday, May 19th, 9:00 – 1:00 – 16th Annual Event.  Master Gardeners from throughout Franklin County will have a wide variety of plants for the sale at very reasonable prices.  Many varieties of perennials, shrubs, herbs and ground covers will be available, and many will be native and drought-tolerant plants.  All plants being sold have been raised in the area, and many are divisions taken directly from the local volunteers' gardens.
